….As varsity celebrates 27 first class graduates at 7th-11th convocation

Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra state has concluded plans to install Chief Victor Umeh, Senator representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly as the Chancellor of the institution.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Eugene Nwadialor made the disclosure yesterday during a press briefing to herald activities marking the 7th -11th combined Convocation of the university.
Prof Nwadialor flanked by the Pro-Chancellor, Dr Theresa Obiekezie, Council Member, Prof Chinyere Okunna among other principal staff of the university including the Registrar, Rev. Daniel Igwilo, also disclosed that 2425 students will be awarded degrees in different fields of studies, having met the requirements in both character and learning.
He said out of this number, 27 are in first class honors while 944 are in second class upper division category.
“These graduates are well equipped in quality education and also received morals and patriotism needed to serve the nation in different areas of social, economic, and cultural development of Nigerians and humanity at large” he stated.
He disclosed that in Tansian University, students are taken as their children whose welfare/nurturing is continued from their various homes and families.
“The parents’ forum allows for cross-fertilization of ideas on how best to cater to the needs and interests of the students. As the saying goes, no one has a monopoly of ideas/knowledge.”
The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that as part of sustainability and in advancing the frontiers of knowledge through teaching and research, Tansian University now runs postgraduate courses, which are duly approved in the Faculties of Management and Social Science as well as Natural and Applied Sciences.
He identified funding as a major challenge confronting the university as a private tertiary institution noting that there is no government subvention or TETFund interventions for private universities in the country.
Tansian University is a faith-based institution founded by the late Monsignor, John Bosco Akam. It was licensed to function as a University in 2007 by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
