A total of 170 indigent persons are to benefit from the Onitsha South local government empowerment scheme aimed at assisting the less privileged members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA in the area.
A break down of the sum indicates that the first trench of the program would gulp the sum of N 5 million to eighty-five indigent members five from each of the seventh wards in the Council Area.
The second trench would also cost another N5 Million to another eighty-five indigent members of the party as well as food items to party members as palliatives.
According to the Chairman of Onitsha South local government area, Chief Emeka Joseph Orji who spoke to reporters at Fegge, the Council Headquarters
“It is normal for us to embark on a tour of the seventh wards of the local government area to interface with them and also carry out inspection of ongoing projects in the local government area”
“The essence of this employment scheme is very instructive to encourage our indigent members and to give them a sense of belonging and also know the needs of the party at the ward level “
“We shall be carrying out this program in two trenches at N5 Million each and those benefits would be endorsed by the ward Chairmen, Woman leaders, and Youth leaders before presenting those names to the Council “
“You can agree with me that under this situation in the country, there is the need for us to reach out to people who are down the ladder and that is in line with our motto, Be Your Brother’s and Sister’s Keeper”
“We have also given the ward executives the guidelines and template upon which they would select the real indigent members “
Orji further announced that members of the party at the ward level would also benefit through the palliatives that would be shared at a later date.
