The Anambra State House of Assembly reconvened yesterday after the Easter break, resuming plenary with renewed vigor and legislative purpose.
Welcoming Honourable Members back to the Chambers, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, Ph.D, expressed profound gratitude to God for the success of the just-concluded Legislative Retreat held from May 5–7, 2025. He extended heartfelt appreciation to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, for his unwavering support for the legislature.

The Speaker also commended Members who used the Easter recess to carry out empowerment and development initiatives in their various constituencies, describing their actions as “a reflection of people-driven representation.”
Looking ahead, Rt. Hon. Udeze reminded his colleagues of their shared commitment to timely legislation, effective oversight, and quality representation. He called for continued dedication to duty and to the broader vision of Project Anambra.

He equally acknowledged the efforts of the management and staff of the State Assembly and charged them to sustain their support for legislative efficiency. The media partners were also applauded for their consistent and timely reportage of House activities.
In plenary, the House adopted the report of the Committee on Public Petitions on the matter titled “𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐬, 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐍𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐢, 𝐆𝐑𝐀 𝐎𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐬𝐡𝐚.” After careful review, the House resolved that the Landlord Association should oversee the management of the estate, not the Allottees’ Association.

A highlight of the day was the First Reading of the “𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥,” sponsored by Hon. Atuchukwu Chuddy Atusel . The proposed law seeks to establish a regulatory agency that will standardize and sanitize real estate practices in the state.
Additionally, four new petitions and two motions were presented as the House commenced robust deliberations for the weeks ahead.

The 8th Assembly is back—and fully focused on delivering value to Ndi Anambra.
