Onitsha South Mayor Declares Zero Tolerance On Potholes

The Executive Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government, Chief Emeka Orji, Oba Armani, (Dike di Ebube Onitsha South), declared zero tolerance for all the Potholes in the council.

The Onitsha South local government assured on Friday that all damaged portions of roads at Modebe, Ozomagala, and Mba streets, among other roads across the council area, would be repaired with appropriate materials to positively impact smooth businesses and transportation and avert road hazards.

Chief Orji gave this assurance, stating that the local government is committed to fixing all the failed portions of the roads to enjoy the good road network of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to the peak.

“We would keep on doing our best to ensure that the portholes become a thing of the past as Mr. Governor has done remarkably well in the road network; we need to ensure that other roads are portholes-free,” the Mayor said.

Oba Armani said that the local government is using appropriate materials for the road repairs.

He further detailed the process of road maintenance currently underway across the nook and crannies of the council area and emphasized that the process involves cutting the failed portions into regular shapes, removing the damaged material, and replacing it with stone-based materials.

“We are committed to completing all the failed portions using this method,” he reassured constituents.

Onitsha South LG To Prosecute Those Burning Tyres On The Tarred Roads

The Government of Onitsha South local government would Prosecute anyone found burning tyres on the tarred roads or vandalizing government property.
The statement explained that when tyres are burnt on tarred roads, the heat of the fire which emanates from them causes the binding molecules of the tarred roads to disintegrate, hence affecting the bitumen or coaltar used for the construction of the roads, with potholes developing at the spots
He also urged citizens of the state to work with the State Government to bring to an end the menace of black soot, by stopping illegal and indiscriminate burning of tyres in Port Harcourt.
They noted that tyre burning often leads to the development and expansion of potholes, lamenting that the state spends significant resources repairing roads damaged by such activities.

The Oyo State Government has declared Zero tolerance for potholes across the state, saying that it wants to maximize this dry season to maintain its roads not minding whether it is trunk A, B or C.

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) says refusal to assist officers under attack could result in a fine of N100,000 and a prison term of up to three months.
