he Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly rejected President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it a violation of the 1999 Constitution.
The party condemned the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as an unelected administrator, describing it as an attack on democracy and an attempt at state capture.

PDP insists that the situation in Rivers does not justify emergency rule and warns against a broader plot to suppress opposition and impose authoritarian governance.

Citing Section 305 of the Constitution, the party argues that Tinubu lacks the power to unilaterally impose emergency rule without National Assembly approval. It also cautioned Ibas against taking actions that could destabilize democratic governance in the state.
