In line with the administration’s goal of His Excellency, Barr. (Dr) Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State to tackle and reduce poverty in the State, the Executive Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area Hon. Barr. Chimezie Robinson Nkwuo through the office of the Council first lady, Barr. Mrs Adaeze Christie Nkwuo on Wednesday, 13th December, 2023, empowered some women and youths of the Council who graduated from different classes of skill acquisitions after three months of industrial training.
The empowerment program which took place at the headquarters of the council area on Wednesday, during the council’s End-of-the-Year thanksgiving service was conducted through the office of the first lady of the Council, Barr. (Mrs) Adaeze Christie Nkwuo
Speaking during the program, Barr. (Mrs) Nkwuo expressed that, the initiative is in line with the vision of His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and the Council Chairman, Barr. Chimezie Robinson Nkwuo towards reducing poverty in the area and improving the total well-being of the people.
She further said that the aim of the empowerment was also to enable the beneficiaries can showcase what they have learned so far by opening up their business ventures as soon as possible.
According to her, the beneficiaries had been on industrial training under “The Grace Orchard Foundation” and were selected from across the 13 wards of Enugu South Local Government Area with the inclusion of widows who were taught how to open and manage small and medium businesses.
Commenting on the program, the Executive Chairman appealed to the beneficiaries to ensure that, the aim of empowerment is reached, to enable them to have the opportunity of helping themselves and their families. He further assured that he would embark on the empowerment of additional women and youths across the council area.
The LG boss added that the major goal of the council under his watch is to improve the living standard of the people of Enugu South Local Government Area by making them self-reliant.
The various empowerment items awarded to the graduands include; “Training Certificates, baking machines, sewing machines, brand new HP laptop for the best-graduating student under the entrepreneurship training, popcorn machine, grinding machines, full box of make-up kits, hairdryers, and one industrial sewing machine to the best student of fashion and designing department, cash donations to the entrepreneurship students, to enable them to engage themselves and enhance their already acquired skills for their families’ upkeep.
The Council First Lady also distributed food items to various Enugu South women groups that attended the program. With additional Cash donations to the winners of Enugu South 2023 August Women Meeting Match past.
In her further speeches, she eulogized the Council Chairman, Barr. Nkwuo for his sponsorship towards the success of the student’s training cum empowerment program.
Mrs Amarachi Edeh, who spoke shortly after the program on behalf of the other beneficiaries thanked the Chairman and his Wife, Barr. Mrs Adaeze Christie Nkwuo, saying that, the knowledge and empowerment was a good development as they would go a long way to keep the women and Youths meaningfully engaged.
